Spartans gaffer, Dougie Samuel, believes his side has what it takes to win promotion to the SPFL.
The local club finished fifth in the Lowland League last season and with all teams strengthening in the close season Samuel knows they will need to be at the top of their game to be crowned champions.
Along with the Lowland League clubs they will also face off against Hearts, Ranger and Celtic ‘B’ teams who will take part in the competition this season.
But before that they travel along the M8 today to face Open Goal Broomhill in their first game of the new season.
Samuel said: “The goal is to win promotion to League Two. It’s going to be difficult, very difficult.
“The league is getting stronger all the time, but I think we’re putting together a good squad. Certainly the players I’m signing, they’re coming here because they want to win the league.
“They want to win promotion so I don’t think we should shy away from that. “But I know there will be another six, seven, eight teams who will be thinking exactly the same and saying the same thing.
“You just have to look at the investment which is being made at East Kilbride, Berwick Rangers, Open Goal Broomhill, Tranent… where do I stop? “So everyone is investing and improving the quality and depth of their squads.”
