Silverknowes Road will be reopened early in the New Year it has been confirmed.
The popular road was closed as part of the Council’s controversial ‘spaces for people’ programme that came in during the lockdown.
Since then locals have complained and one man even blocked the road off in a protest over it’s closure.
At the Transport Committee this week it was agreed to intall a dedicated cycle way and reopen it.
Local COuncillor Kevin lang posted about the news online.
He wrote: As folks may remember, I managed to get a motion passed at Edinburgh Council to review the current closure of the road from Silverknowes to the promenade to cars.
“When Louise Young and I surveyed local people on this, a clear majority of residents in Silverknowes were in favour of having the road reopened. There was a lot of concern at the ongoing 3km detour along Silverknowes Parkway, Muirhouse Parkway, and Marine Drive.
“Following their review, officers came back with an option to reopen the road to all vehicles, and with segregated two-way cycle lanes retained all the way down. The road is wide enough to accommodate that.
“A majority of councillors on the Transport Committee backed this option today which means the road should be reopened early in the New Year.”
