A record proportion of young people are leaving Scotland’s local secondary schools to positive destinations, new data shows.

Statistics for every local authority secondary school have been published on Education Scotland’s Parentzone Scotland website, showing 93 per cent of pupils across Scotland left to destinations including further education, training or employment in 2014/15.

The statistics are part of a range of data available to parents on the website, which was revamped last year.

Education Secretary Angela Constance said: “Parents can now benefit from more and better information than ever before, helping them become more informed about their children’s progress – our young people deserve nothing less.

“I am very clear, however, that schools cannot be judged by any single measure, and that this data adds to a range of available information on individual school performance.

“It strengthens our knowledge as we work with pupils, parents and teachers to improve educational attainment across the country.

“This Government has taken a range of steps to improve educational standards and to ensure every child has the ability to achieve their full potential, and I am delighted to see that at a national level, the data shows an upward trend of young people going on to positive destinations.

“Good, factual information also helps us to see where we could be doing more. We are beginning to reap the benefits of Curriculum for Excellence, which is designed to give young people every possible chance of entering employment, training or further education.

“The new National Improvement Framework and Attainment Scotland Fund will further help us identify and promote best practice across the education system, ensuring every child in Scotland gets the best possible opportunities to pursue their ambitions.”
