Local DJ Jim Henderson aka DJ Edinburgh has submitted a plan to the council to hold a ‘Live Aid’ event in Drylaw in the summer to raise funds for local food charities.
Since lockdown, Jim, who lives in Drylaw spent the lockdown keeping thousands of people entertained with a wide range of events including socially distanced garden parties as well as online DJ sets and quizzes.
He now plans to hold a live event later this summer using the field behind Drylaw Church and has now submitted his proposal to the council for approval.
Jim said “I am looking to plan a local outdoor event to raise some much-needed funds for a local charity in Drylaw.
“The plan is to use the grass area on Easter Drylaw Gardens just at the back of Drylaw Church.
“I have submitted plans to the council to get the required entertainment license for the event.
“In keeping with the Live Aid theme all money raised will go to a local charity helping to distribute food to people in need.
“I hope to get the license from the council and have also had support from Councillor, Gavin Barrie, and some local residents in Drylaw.”
Due to the current restrictions, the event will observe social distancing
along with any other relevant health and safety measures.
The event will be broadcast online and will involve Jim playing music from the iconic 1984 concert.
Local councillor, Gavin Barrie, who is supporting the proposal said “Jim Henderson is a wonderful example of a community-minded individual who not only identifies a problem but immediately acts to alleviate it.
“I’m very supportive of what Jim is trying to do and hope that his big idea for an outdoor DJ set as a fundraiser comes to fruition for the benefit of the local community and the good causes he is seeking to support.”
