Edinburgh West MP, Christine Jardine, has been named as the Liberal Democrats’ new Work and Pensions spokesperson in a party reshuffle announced yesterday by leader Sir Vince Cable.
Ms Jardine will speak on behalf of the party on issues relating to welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy, including the WASPI pension injustice, disability benefits and the controversial new Universal Credit system

Following the announcement, Ms Jardine said “While Westminster is firmly focused on Brexit, we need to remember that people up and down the country are being affected by a whole host of other challenges.
“Every week I help countless constituents who are experiencing stress and hardship as a direct result of this Tory government’s work and pensions policies.
“Whether it’s cheating thousands of WASPI women out of the money they deserve, or the total mismanagement of universal credit, it’s blatantly clear to me that the DWP is not fit for purpose.
“I’m looking forward to more opportunities to speak up for those people while holding the Conservatives to account, and to bringing my constituency experiences to the national stage”.
