Civil Service Strollers are delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted by the City of Edinburgh Council to install floodlights at Christie Gillies Park.
The Lowland League club submitted the application earlier this year following changes to the Scottish Football Associations (SFA) licensing criteria that came into effect midway through last season.
These changes now mean that for the club to remain a full SFA member – and enable entry to the Scottish Cup, something which it first competed for in season 1925-26- they must install the floodlights to maintain their membership.
The Muirhouse based club will now need to raise £30,000 to cover the work of having the pylons and lights erected. Club President, Russell Pryde, said “We are happy that the planning application was approved by the council with just three objections.
“A club our size means that we will have to ‘phase’ this work in line with our financial situation.
“Shortly we will be launching our fundraising campaign to assist us install the lights as soon as we possibly can.”
Civil have played out of their current base on Marine Drive since moving to Muirhouse in 1957.
Last year the club had their most successful year in the Lowland Leagueby finishing in fifth spot.
