Civil Service Strollers got their Lowland League campaign of to a flyer with a win against Edinburgh University in a seven goal thriller at Peffermill.
Gary Jardine’s men went into the game as favourites but found themselves a goal behind in the opening minutes.
The students won a free-kick on the edge of the box that was whipped in. Civil keeper, Jacob Pazikas, pulled off a terrific save from a hoarder but the ball fell at the feet of the Uni striker who slotted the ball home.
Conrad Balatoni then leveled for the visitors before netting his second of the afternoon just before the interval.
Into the second half and Civil went ahead after Robbie Cole was pulled down in the box.
Marc Laird showed great composure when he stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The Uni went on the hunt for an equaliser and started pressing the Civil defence, with just a few minutes to go they drew level.
Just as it looked like the game would end all square Matthew Cunningham picked up on a loose ball in the box and his shot found the net to give Strollers all three points.
The Muirhouse club are back in action this Tuesday night when they welcome Hearts B team to Christie Gillies Park with a 7.45pm kick-off.
